Local Derby Thriller

Wednesday 17th September saw the first local derby between Llandovery and Teigrod Teilo in the Under 15 Division of the Carmarthenshire Junior League. Castle Fields played host to what turned out to be a scintillating game of football between two sides who were both desperate to claim the bragging rights.

A high tempo game from the outset, both teams were keen to attack their opponent’s goal and the first half was evenly matched.  It was Teigrod who broke the deadlock with a well taken goal from 10 yards by Dean Lewis, but Llandovery came back strongly and Rhys Kelly equalised with a stunning effort which was well deserved for a tireless performance.

The second period continued in the same vein, but Llandovery began to show their experience and dominated possession, with most of the action taking place in the Teigrod half. It was sustained Llandovery pressure that saw them take the lead with Liam Gordon firing home into the bottom right corner from inside the 6 yard box. Llandovery looked comfortable after taking the lead and Teigrod barely threatened in the final quarter, the back four under the able leadership of centre back Ben Morgan, snuffing out their advances.

Final score: Llandovery 2-1 Teigrod Teilo
